Mrstik, William D. One of three sons of Edward W. Mrstik and Clara J. Mrstik (nee Fiala), was born on October 25, 1930 in Kanona, Kansas and passed away on March 19, 2006 at the age of 75 years. Bill was reared on a farm in the Kanona and Jennings area. He attended Fairview School for four years, Rock Island School for a year, and Jennings schools for seven years. He graduated from Jennings High School in 1948. From 1949 until 1952, Bill served in the United States Army. He spent one year during that time in Korea during the Korean Conflict. On March 23, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Janet Apostolos. They made their home in Milwaukee, WI. Two sons were born to their union. Bill worked for 30 years as a truck driver for Healzer Cartage and Arkansas Best Freight in Milwaukee. He retired in 1986. During his retirement, Bill enjoyed many hobbies, traveling, and spending time with his family. His longtime friend, Susan Kalan, and her daughters and grandchildren became an important part of his life also. Survivors include his two sons and their wives, Michael Sr. (Laurie) Mrstik of Milwaukee, WI, and David (Jodi) Mrstik of Oshkosh, WI, his six grandchildren, Michael Jr., Chris (Shelly), Michelle (Chris), Nathan, Chad, and Amber, his two brothers, Eugene (Donna) Mrstik of Jennings, KS, and Eldon (Cruz) Mrstik of Fillmore, CA. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bill has been preceded in death by his parents Edward Mrstik and Clara Mrstik and a special nephew Gary Mrstik. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held Friday from 5 PM to 6 PM at the Funeral Home. Private Interment Jennings Cemetery in Jennings Kansas.
