Bill was born on March 18, 1954, in Jersey City, New Jersey. He passed away peacefully in hospice care on October 19, 2024, at the age of 70. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Jasinski Nee Becker; his brothers Ali (Jeanne) Jasinski and Jimmy Jasinski; mother-in-law; Valerie Becker, brother-in-law Robert Becker; sisters-in-law Barb (John Kerr) Becker, Cheryl (Mike) Struhar and Karen (David) Fantl; nieces and nephews: Francis "Chip" (Kelly) Estenes, Ray (Stacey) Estenes, Cheryl (Ken) Soszka, Albert Jasinski, Kelsey (Brandon) Biskupski and Sarah Struhar; aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and numerous long time and new friends. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Eileen Jasinski, sister Eleanor Estenes, nephew Tommy Estenes, aunts & uncles, and father-in-law Gerald Becker.
Bill grew up in Jersey City and attended St. Michael’s High School. After graduation in 1972, he joined the United States Coast Guard where he was stationed on the Coast Guard Cutter Westwind, an icebreaker. Serving primarily on the Great Lakes and the Arctic Circle, he was stationed for a time in Milwaukee. Bill chose to stay in the Milwaukee area after his tour of duty was complete. Ski, a nickname he was given in the Coast Guard, built many lifelong friendships with his fellow Coasties.
Bill worked at Mohawk/WisCold Cold Storage in the 1970s and 80’s. Later in life, Bill changed careers and earned his real estate and appraiser license in the 90’s. Bill worked as a real estate agent for a short time. He then was employed as a Real Estate Specialist with the 128th Air Refueling Wing at Mitchel Field in Milwaukee, Andrews Air Force Base in Washington D.C., and for the Department of Defense in Battle Creek Michigan from which he retired in 2017.
Having a grandfather who knew Coach Vince Lombardi, Bill was an avid Green Bay Packers fan even as a kid in New Jersey. Bill came to enjoy all Wisconsin sports teams including the Bucks, Badgers, and Brewers. He was also an avid bowler, bowling several times a week, and picked up the game of golf in his later years. Traveling also became another passion in Bill’s life. During his early days in Milwaukee, Bill became involved with the Booper Troop, a large group of friends that camped together several times a year. Through the Booper Troop, Bill met Kathy while on a camping trip in the Wisconsin Dells and they were married in 1984 and just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Bill and Kathy took many trips throughout the U.S. and Europe. After retirement, they purchased an R.V. and traveled the U.S. visiting family, friends, and old Coasties.
Bill will be most fondly remembered for his witty sense of humor that kept family and friends and eventually his doctors and nurses in stitches. His laughter was contagious, and he never failed to make you smile or just shake your head. His sense of humor was only rivaled by his generous nature, helping people whenever possible. After a liver transplant in January of 2023, Bill had several complications, and his body never fully recovered. He slowly became weaker, and Bill told Kathy, “If they can’t fix me, it’s time to go.” He has now made his final journey to heaven to see God, family, and friends who have gone before him. He will be greatly missed by those of us still here on earth.
Bill’s memorial service will be held on November 7th, 2024. Visitation from 9 am to 10:45 am at St Leonard’s Catholic Church in Muskego with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment and military honors will follow the service on the church grounds.
