Schmeichel, Walter W. Passed away on September 27, 2006 at the age of 85. Walter was born in Underhill WI. He worked in and around the family farm near Gillett WI. till he joined the Army during WWII. After serving his country he moved to Milwaukee, where he married, raised a family and as a member of UAW local 75, worked for American Motors and Chrysler 25 years until retiring. After the death of his first wife, Walter became involved in the Boy Scouts as a leader of the troop his sons belonged to. In his later years, Walter enjoyed making wine. He would gather berries from bushes on his Gillett farm. He took great pride in the wine he made from those berries, and even had a label made calling it “Wally Wine”. Walter is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Lydia, his two brothers Alvin and Norman (Buddy), all of Gillett, and his wife, Elaine (nee Brix) of Antigo WI. He is survived by his sons, Dennis (Barb) and Terrence Schmeichel. Further survived by his wife of 28 years Grace (nee Traut), his step-children Michael (Susan), James (Kimberly), William (Kathy), Thomas (Mindy) Polzin and Robin (James) Janiszewski. Special ''grandpa'' of Tim, Dawn, Rory (Holly), Sara, Josh, Margaret, Samantha and Witt. Visitation will be at MAX A. SASS & SONS GREENRIDGE CHAPEL, Wednesday, October 4, 2006, from 4-7 PM. Funeral Services FRIDAY, October 6, 2006, 11 AM, at Centennial Evangelical Lutheran Church 3558 S. 24th St. Milwaukee. Interment Highland Memorial Park, New Berlin, Wisconsin. Additional visitation on FRIDAY from 10-11am at the Church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Ruth Hospice for the caring and love shown Walter and the compassion shown his family.
