Virginia Mary “Birdy” Lex

*August 23, 1956 – February 4, 2025* 

Virginia Mary Lex, lovingly known as "Birdy" to her family and friends, entered heaven peacefully on February 4, 2025, in Greenfield, WI, after a short but arduous walk with lung cancer. Born on August 23, 1956, to Robert and June Lex, Birdy lived a life filled with love, courage, and grace. She is now reunited with her beloved parents, Robert and June Lex; her infant sister, Mary Virginia; her grandparents; and the many pets who brought her so much joy throughout her life. 

Birdy had a profound connection to nature and found joy in its beauty. Whether she was admiring the majesty of horses, tending to her beloved home, or immersing herself in the details of her surroundings, her appreciation for life’s intricacies shone brightly. A true enthusiast for cars, Birdy had a keen eye for value and craftsmanship, and delighted in finding a new "best" car to drive. 

Birdy was known for her discriminating spirit, which guided her in making thoughtful decisions and in seeking excellence in everything she pursued. Her independence, courage, and persistence allowed her to approach life's challenges with wisdom, dignity, and strength. Her Christian faith sustained her through life’s joys and sorrows, providing her with hope, peace, and resilience during difficult times. 

Birdy’s incredible attention to detail not only enriched her personal life but also served her well in her career as a mechanical designer. She took great pride in her work, applying her precision, organization, and thoughtfulness to every project she undertook. Her professional accomplishments were a testament to her skill and dedication. 

She was also incredibly organized, taking pride in her home and ensuring it was always a haven of harmony and comfort. Her thoughtful nature left an indelible mark on everyone she met. 

Birdy is survived by her loving brothers Bob Lex (Joyce), Jim Lex (Karen), and Dave Lex, and her sister Chris Schultz (Gordy). She also leaves behind her cherished nephews and nieces: Bob Lex (Dana), Michael Lex, Jim Lex (Bryan), Mary Frazee (Ryan), Stone Edwards (fiancée Rachael), step-nephew Bill Schultz, and step-niece Sarah Baumgart (Micah). Additionally, she is survived by many cousins and grand-nieces and nephews. Her beloved pet, Benny, was a constant source of joy and companionship, and their bond was truly special. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Birdy’s wonderful neighbors for their many years of kindness and support, especially Darleen Ertl, who has been lovingly caring for Benny during the many months when Birdy was unable to do so. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. 

A memorial service will be held in the spring, when Wisconsin winter weather is no longer a threat. Details will be shared soon. In honor of her memory, the family encourages donations to a local animal shelter of your choice. 

Her free spirit, discriminating nature, and profound courage in the face of life’s challenges remind us to treasure our loved ones and the beauty in every moment.
