Van "Dino" E. Sandeen

August 20, 1949 — June 5, 2024

Van Edward Sandeen, known affectionately as Vaaaan or “Dino”, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, at the age of 74. Born on August 20, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Van's life was marked by an unwavering kindness, wisdom, a wonderful sense of humor, and an inherent friendliness that drew people to him.

Van was the beloved husband of Sue "Blondie" Sandeen, and through 40 years together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family. He was a cherished member of his family, which included his dear mother-in-law, Lois "Shorty" Riley, and his sister, Vicki Sandeen. Van's legacy continues through his four children, Carson Wilhite (Mark), Cara Jowers (Sean), Nathan Sandeen (Janie), Jolene Catterall (Ian), and his adored eight grandchildren, Maverick (Emmie), Colton, Dawson, Jadyn, Rhiannon, Mackenzie, Bailey, and Mason, as well as his treasured great-granddaughters, Rosalie and Freya. Van’s memories will also live through his extended family, Cindy “CB”, Shawn and Peggy, and their children, Lauren, Olivia, Colton and Jamie.

Van was preceded in death by his parents, William Sandeen, Robert and Betty Stickert, his sister Doty, his brother Richard, and father-in-law Oran Riley.

A proud graduate of Edgerton Senior High School, Van's commitment to education continued as he earned a degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Van's passions were numerous and varied. He was a whole-hearted fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badger football teams, bringing his family and friends together to cheer them on. His love for Scooby Doo, Halloween and making Thanksgiving dinner was well-known, and he enjoyed celebrating all holidays with youthful enthusiasm.

Those who knew Van will fondly remember his favorite snack foods—anything chocolate; gelato, cookies, lava cakes, and malted milk balls—which were often enjoyed during his favorite tv shows with a cat on his lap.

Van Edward Sandeen was a man of great heart and soul, who loved his wife and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May we all find comfort in the memories we shared and the love that he gave so freely.
