Sylvia R. Balko

January 28, 1933 — April 10, 2018

Passed peacefully into Eternal Life on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, leaving behind many beautiful memories. Born to Olaf J. and Olufine Kvalheim on January 28, 1933 . Sylvia was the sweetest sister to the late Norman (Gretchen) and Ray (Joan) Kvalheim. Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Otto E. "Sonny" Balko and son, Michael G. Van Hart. Sylvia was the dearest mother to Mark Robert (Sharon) Van Hart, Sharon V. (Carl) Thorsen, and Vicki L. Van Hart (William F. Powell). Special Grandmother to Alexandra M. Van Hart (Kenneth Dawson), Mark Ryan (Carmen) Van Hart, Anthony (Rochelle) Van Hart, Jessica T. (Brett)Selby, Kelly (David) Hector, Eric Thorsen, Nolan R. Lewis(Caley Fisher), Calvin L. Lewis(Jacqueline Whitaker), and Rachael M. Lewis. Sylvia was the greatest great-grandmother to Michael, Olivia, Noah, Evan, Soren Van Hart, Harper Rae and Jake Selby, and two little ones arriving later this year. Sylvia is further survived by many other relatives and friends. Sylvia had a passion for fashion and interior design. She was an excellent homemaker, enjoyed rummage sales, and was a very talented artist. She practiced painting with oil and acrylics on unique wooden pieces, some Norwegian Rosemaling, and some folk art. The past few years have been a blessing and Sylvia's family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Clement Manor's Rose Unit for the first class treatment she received while she was a resident there. It was HOME-- Thank you. A visitation will be held at Max A. Sass & Sons Funeral Home on Monday, April 16th from 9:30 a.m. to the time of service at 11:30 a.m. burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
