Stella H. Matulis

May 26, 1921 — April 4, 2010

Matulis, Stella H. (Nee Switalski) born into eternal life on Easter Sunday at the age of 89, after a short struggle with lymphoma. Preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings and her son Tom. Survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Frank; her children Kathleen (Wayne) Sojkowski, the late Tom (Marie) Matulis and James (Karen) Matulis. Loving grandmother of Paul (Heidi) Sojkowski, Jon and Mark Sojkowski, Amy (Cesar) Montes, Kim (Leo) Plewa, Kristine (John) Harms and Katie Matulis. Proud great-grandma of Maya Sojkowski, Franklin, Max, Sophia Montes, Noah and Owen Sojkowski, Olivia and Hannah Plewa, Kya and Parker Harms. Further survived by her dear sister Eleanore Neumann, her favorite brother "Ludy" Switalski, special niece Carlene (Bob) Scott and many nieces, nephews and friends. Stella attended St. Vincent Grade School and South Division High School. She was a lifelong member and volunteer of all events and activities of her beloved church. Past president of the Ladies Altar Society, spending countless hours washing and ironing priest vestments and altar cloths; cleaning and decorating the church and altars so they were perfect for the season. She and Frank created lasting memories for family and friends sharing and entertaining at their little piece of heaven at Little Sand Lake. She will be remembered not for her tact, but for her honesty, speaking out for what was right and just, her work ethic, her generosity and heart of gold, especially those less fortunate finally peace to you. Special thanks to Drs. Lubing and Chang, Clement Manor staff especially Rachel and Odyssey Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her honor to St. Vincent Painting Fund appreciated. Visitation and shared "Stella Stories" will take place on Sunday, April 11, 2010 from 1 4 pm at the MAX A. SASS & SONS GREENRIDGE CHAPEL. Additional visitation on Monday, April 12, 2010 at ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2100 W. Mitchell Street, from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Interment following at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
