Stanley Haskel Shepard

Shepard, Stanley H., of Madison, formerly of Greendale, passed peacefully on September 26, 2019, at age 91. Loving husband of Marilyn, beloved father of Kathy (Mark Smith) and Bill (Jane), cherished grandfather of Erika and Nick. A graduate of Joliet Township High School, Joliet Junior College, and the University of Illinois, Stan served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force in the Far East during the Korean conflict. He worked 30 years for 3M Company in sales and management. In his retirement, he enjoyed contributing many volunteer hours on Greendale’s Board of Health and as a “Reading Buddy” at Highland View Elementary School. Stan delighted in forming a personal connection with almost everyone he met, making quips and jokes, gently ribbing the other person with a twinkle in his eye and watching to make sure it was understood that he was joking. He often expressed how blessed he was to have his family, and how grateful he was for the wonderful life he had lived. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to organizations dedicated to environmental protection or education. And, whenever you can, be kind to a stranger, read a book to a child, or make someone smile. Celebration of Life is postponed due to risk of coronavirus. Details will be announced at a later date.
