Szyszko, Sophie Catherine (nee Bogdan) Found peace on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of the late Edward. Loving mother of Elizabeth(Robert)Kirsling, Barbara(William)Friedman and Suzanne(Michael)Brown. Proud granny of Elliot, Sarah and Jonathan Friedman, Katie and Jerry Brown and Ross Kirsling. Preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Lydia(Anthony)Witas, Evelyn Bogdan, Violet(Anthony)Szymborski and Edward(Audrey)Bogdan, step-brother Joseph(Jenny)Steliga and step-sister Genevieve Steliga. Further survived by her step-sister Josephine Szyszko, sisters-in-law Pat and Bernice Szyszko, Rosemary and Jenny Schuetz and her step-brother Henry Steliga as well as many nieces, nephews and friends including the gang at Heritage Lake Apartments. Sophie loved being a part of her family and friends lives. She enjoyed golf and sewing, was a competitive card player and a voracious reader. She also believed in helping others and always continued to learn new things. During her life she was a Girl Scout Leader, the historian of St. Alexander's Christian Mothers Altar Society and prepared the newsletter for the Greenfield Women's Club. She was one of the founding members of the (50+yr)500 Card Club, a member of the Garden Club of Greenfield, Cherokee Park Senior Golf League, Wilson Park Senior Center and a volunteer at Mount Carmel Nursing Home. Sophie was the first member of her immediate family to graduate high school in the first graduating class of Bay View HS in 1936. She never stopped learning-taking numerous AIB classes during her years employed at First Wisconsin National Band and after retiring she became a student at UW-Milwaukee and went on to attend classes at MATC Oak Creek for 20 consecutive years. Special thanks for the loving care and family support at Willowcrest. Visitation will be held at ST. CHARLES BORROMEO CATHOLIC CHURCH, 3100 W. Parnell St., on Thursday, July 19 from 3:30-4:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 PM. Private entombment at St. Adalbert Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Charles Borromeo Parish or the Salvation Army.
