(Nee: Crofts) of Greendale was called to heaven on Friday, October 22, 2010 surrounded by loving family and friends after a short battle with lung cancer. She was 78 years old. Born in Fond du Lac, WI on March 3, 1932 and preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Nina (nee Ottery) Crofts. Also preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Howard E. Lenz. Dear mother of Sandra (Robert) Spangenberg, Cheryl Henning-Patnode (Fiancé Gregg Drobac) and Lynn (Gregory) Sisler. Proud grandmother of Chelsea and Daniel Spangenberg; Todd (Kristen) Henning, Matthew and Jordon Patnode; and Paul, Lucas and Jacob Sisler. Great grandmother of Preston, Martin and Simon Henning. Shirley was one of 6 children. Joyce (Edward) Byrnes, the late Robert (Mary) Crofts, Alice (Robert-deceased) Morava, Sidney (Terry-deceased) Crofts and, John (Annie) Crofts. Shirley graduated from Carroll College in 1965. She touched many students’ lives as a 5th grade teacher at Highland View School, Greendale, WI retiring after 35 fulfilling years. Shirley enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing and playing Sheepshead with the “card club.” She was an avid and rambunctious Brewer, Packer and Badger fan. Longtime member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Greendale. Though physically challenged in her later years by a stroke that left her paralyzed, her power chair kept her on the constant move with her friends at Southridge Mall, the American Legion and Greendale shops and parks. Despite her inability to walk, her love of life continued to soar. Shirley’s family would like to thank all of her friends, neighbors and family who supported her wish to remain at home.
