Roger Michael Cortez

Cortez, Roger M. Roger Michael "Mike" Cortez, 70, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, on Sunday, February 1, 2015 in Fond du lac, WI. He was born on May 4, 1944 in Milwaukee, WI to Rogerio Cortez and Lillian (Frenn) Cortez. Roger grew up in Milwaukee, WI. He graduated from West Division High School in Milwaukee in 1962. Roger attended the Milwaukee Police Academy and proudly served for 34 years as a member of the Milwaukee Police Department from 1965 to 1999. He served as a crime prevention officer and community relations officer for the last 16 years of his service. Roger is a past President of the Wisconsin Crime Prevention Practitioners Association. Roger married Joanne (Hrncirik) Cortez in 1965 in Milwaukee, WI. They were happily married for 49 years. He will be remembered as devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Cortez, his parents Rogerio and Lillian Cortez, and his uncle, Edward Frenn. Roger is survived by his spouse Joanne Cortez of Milwaukee, WI; his daughter Michele (Dave) Nagel of Milwaukee, WI; his son Steve (Antoinette) Cortez of Frisco, TX; his grandchildren Zachary, Hailey, Jack, Caroline and Abigail. Further survived by his uncle Joseph (the late Eileen) Frenn, his sister-in-law Mary (Jack) Molchany, brothers-in-law, Jim (Midge) Hrncirik, Dennis (Peggy) Hrncirik , Bill Hrncirik, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation at the Max A. Sass & Sons Greenridge Chapel on Thursday, February 5 from 4-7 pm. Vigil Service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, February 6 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3100 S. 41st St. at 10 am. (please meet at church) Burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
