Roberto Diaz, Jr., a cherished family man, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2023. Born on September 17, 1944, in Mercedes, Texas.
Roberto was a man of intelligence and dedication, as evidenced by his completion of a graduate degree and a distinguished career with the State of Wisconsin, where he retired after more than two decades of committed service. Outside of his professional life, Roberto was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for fishing, hunting, and boating. He was often referred to as the quintessential Mr. Fix-It, a jack of all trades who could fix anything that came his way. His love for walking his beloved dog, Yuki, was well known, as was his willingness to lend a helping hand to others. Roberto enjoyed a great bargain and finding treasures at rummage sales.
Roberto’s penchant for dining out and traveling—albeit strictly by car—was well-known. He relished the open road and the freedom it provided. Although he loved exploring new destinations, he was a snowbird at heart, often journeying to Florida to soak up the sunshine and warmth during the winter months.
A true family man, his happiest moments were spent surrounded by his loved ones. Roberto’s legacy lives on through his children Roberto Diaz, Melissa Diaz, and Patty Ortega, grandchildren Amanda (Chris) Herzog, Alex (Elizabeth) Diaz, Madeline Gonzalez-Diaz, and Eden Ortega, great-grandchildren Jackson Herzog, Ella Herzog, Enzo Diaz, and Mila Diaz, long-time partner Pamela Oliver, and dog Yuki, as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. Preceded in death by his beloved mother Guadalupe, and brother Reynaldo Diaz.
As we bid farewell to Roberto, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life filled with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to guide and inspire us all. In accordance with his wishes no services will be held.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have shared in Roberto’s journey and have supported them during this time of loss. Special thank you to the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and St. Luke’s Hospital Staff for their dedicated care.
