Rickie "Rick" Bowen
Passed peacefully at home on July 30, 2023 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Betsy (nee Harris) for 51 years. Loving father of Kim (David) Freitag and Nathan Bowen. Further survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, other loved relatives, and many friends.
He grew up in Ellisville, Illinois and attended both Knox and Eureka Colleges. After graduating college and getting married, Rick and Betsy moved many times and ended up spending most of their life in Muskego, Wisconsin.
Rick had two long careers during his married life. He was in management at various trucking companies where he made many lifelong friends. Next, he moved on to being an independent contractor. Having helped friends and family for years with any problem from cars to plumbing to drywall to wiring, he finally got paid for being Mr. Fix-it.
Most of Rick’s favorite activities included other people. He liked to golf, fish, bowl, and play softball. He enjoyed taking people on pontoon cruises around Little Muskego Lake. He loved to play card games and shut box. Many days he liked to meet up with friends after work, often entertaining them in the Bear Den in our basement.
His humor has been described by friends as sarcastic, dry, mischievous, charming but nothing made him happier than making others smile. Rick made friends everywhere he went and he will be greatly missed by all of them.
A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Max A. Sass & Sons- Westwood Chapel (W173S7629 Westwood Dr., Muskego) on Tuesday August 8th from 12PM - 2PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rick's name would be appreciated to ProHealth Care Foundation, Knox College in Galesburg, IL, Moose Charities/Moose International (Moosehaven or Mooseheart), or to the charity of your choice.
