Richard "Rich" M. Leffel, a cherished family man, respected veteran, and pillar of the Boy Scouting community, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on May 6, 2024, in Greenfield, WI. Born on March 3, 1946, Rich lived a full and honorable life characterized by dedication, love, and courage.
Rich was a graduate of Bay View High School, Class of 1964, and soon after, he answered the call to serve his country as a U.S. Navy Radarman Second Class aboard the U.S.S. York County. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Rich embarked on a career that reflected his strong work ethic and attention to detail. He was a former Inspector at A.O. Smith, loading truck frames onto rail cars, then later retired from Tower Automotive as a Precision Machine Operator. He earned a commercial driver’s
license and rejoined the workforce at AmeriGas delivering propane gas to commercial customers.
Rich was the son of the late Melvin A. Leffel and Nadine (Herold) Leffel and a brother to Burnell (Jim) Krymkowski and Mardell Leffel. Rich was married to the late Judith R. (VanNuland) Leffel and he lovingly remembered her parents, Harry and Ethel (Bongers) VanNuland, who predeceased him.
His legacy is carried on by his beloved children: Michael (Katherine) Leffel, Michelle (Robert) Francis, and Daniel (Lisa) Leffel, who will forever cherish his memory. Rich's grandchildren, Jack Leffel, Madeline Leffel and Zachary Francis, will continue to be inspired by their grandfather's life and the lessons he passed down to them.
An avid bowler, camper, and deer hunter, Rich found joy in the great outdoors and the thrill of riding all- terrain vehicles. His enthusiasm for sports made him a regular at his grandchildren’s basketball games, bowling tournaments, trap shooting meets and soccer matches, cheering with a spirit that was contagious. His passion for reading books about World War II Naval History in the Pacific spoke to his love for the sea and his time in the Navy. From 1986-1991 Rich proudly served as Scoutmaster of Troop
601 at King of Glory Lutheran Church shaping the lives of youth with his wisdom and kindness.
Rich's life was one of purpose and impact, and his absence will be deeply felt by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of crossing paths with him. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of love, service and bravery will continue to inspire future
generations. Rich's life story is a beacon of how to live with integrity, passion and an unwavering commitment to one's family and community.
We will honor the extraordinary life of Richard M. Leffel on Sunday, June 2, 2024. A visitation will begin at 11:00AM followed by a ceremony at 2:00PM at Max A.
