Richard F. Sokolnicki, 78, passed away on March 1, 2024. He was the pride-and-joy son of Casimir and Isabelle Sokolnicki and the beloved brother of Christine, all of whom preceded him in death. He was also a cherished friend of Lynn Goode and an honorary member of her family.
Born and raised in South Milwaukee, Richard received a bachelor's degree in anthropology from UWM in 1970. He worked his way up to Director of Store Planning at Gimbels, then moved to New Jersey to serve at A&P as Vice President of Planning and Design. In his later years, he returned to his hometown to look after his elderly mother and worked at Half Price Books.
There was much more to his life than a résumé, and if Richard were here, he would be happy to tell the story. It would be filled with deep thoughts, gentle meanderings, racecars, sports, arts, photography, family, friends, Poland, a little name-dropping, and a lot of globetrotting.
Wherever he landed, Richard was always a huge-hearted gentleman, quick to help anyone in need, and eager to gift a book to anyone who could read. His favorite novel was If On a Winter's Night a Traveler . He never lost his enthusiasm for turning a new page nor his boldness in venturing down unknown roads.
