Paul G. Stankevich, aged 59, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on June 14, 1965, to Paul and Jean (Garthwait) Stankevich, Paul grew up with a passion for the outdoors that would define his life. He was a man who was quick witted and sarcastic; his laughter was infectious, his kindness was boundless, and his gentleness was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Paul's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his work, and his hobbies. As a loving father, he instilled in his children Kristina (Ryan) Heiden, Ryan (Maddy) Stankevich, Tyler (Liz) Stankevich, and Justyn Stankevich, a sense of integrity and the joy of life's simple pleasures. His role as a proud grandpa to Reese, Amelia, Lucas, Aiden, and Sienna was one he cherished deeply, embracing every moment spent with them and leaving them a legacy of cherished memories.
He had an endless love for his long-time girlfriend, Jill Berenz, and her children, Jake and Kayden, whom he loved as his own. Paul's family circle extended to his dear siblings, Diane Haas and Nancy Richardson, and his nephew Isaiah Richardson, all of whom will miss his presence profoundly.
Paul was the joy of his parents and sisters. From early in life, their family travels, camping trips, hunting trips, and time together formed the deep foundation of his love of family, history, and the outdoors.
Paul's academic achievements were marked by his earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from UW-Platteville, a testament to his intellect and work ethic. His professional life was a reflection of his commitment and expertise in his field. Starting his career at Kapur, Inc. in May 1988, he rose through the ranks to become an esteemed Associate/Project Manager, a role in which he excelled and left a lasting impact.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Paul took pride in caring for and spending time at the farm in Northern Wisconsin. He found peace and joy in hunting, fishing, and kayaking allowing him to connect with Jill, his children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Paul had a love/hate relationship with metal detecting, a hobby that allowed him to discover history.
From an outside observer, it may have seemed like Paul was an intensely private person, but anyone would have been welcomed into his inner circle if they opened up to him. Those fortunate enough to know him, never heard the end of his stories about his children, whom he was immensely proud of, his parents and his time spent up north on the farm. He loved old aerial photos, making chocolate chip pancakes for his grandkids, and getting Mexican food and spending time on the deck with Jill.
Paul's absence will be felt deeply by those who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories they hold dear. His fabulous one-liners will be retold at family gatherings, his legacy will be reflected in the actions of his children and grandchildren, and his gentle nature will continue to inspire all who had the honor of crossing paths with him.
Paul will be deeply missed, but his spectacular humor will live on.
