Nancy R. Mentel Franklin - Nancy R. Mentel, 67, of Franklin, beloved sister, aunt, godmother and friend, entered eternal life unexpectedly, on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Born in Milwaukee on April 16, 1954, she was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy (nee Bonk) Mentel. She spent her early life in Milwaukee, graduating from Cathedral High School where she played saxophone and sang in the choir. She also attended the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. Nancy's work career focused on the insurance industry, working for Time Insurance, John Deere Insurance and Northwestern Mutual Life. Outside of work, Nancy spent much of her time gardening and flower arranging, volunteering at her church, playing handbells and singing. She played handbells at Bay View United Methodist Church for over 20 years and sang in choirs at various Catholic churches on Milwaukee's southside. At the time of her death, Nancy was a member of St. Mary's of Hales Corners' Resurrection Choir, where she often volunteered within the parish. She is survived by her sister, Mary (Bernard) Heinrich of Waukesha, sister-in-law, Maggie (nee Holst) Mentel (Wayne Gilmour) of Baraboo, niece, Sarah (nee Mentel) Carlson (Ryan), and nephews, Michael (Katie) Heinrich and Andrew Mentel (Juli Held). She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Robert Mentel. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 13th at 5pm at the Brenwood Park Apartments (Community Room) at 9501 W. Loomis Road Franklin, WI 53132. Donations may be made in Nancy's name to the American Diabetes Association. Max A. Sass and Sons is assisting the family.
