Nancy C. Piper

NANCY CAMILLE (SYNOVITZ) PIPER 17 May 1933 – 19 Dec 2021 Nancy Camille (Synovitz) Piper, age 88, departed this world on 19 Dec 2021 with her niece at her side. Born on 17 May 1933 at home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Nancy was the daughter of Francis Joseph Synovitz and Stephania Rose (Sibilski) Synovitz. She graduated from Milwaukee’s South Division High School in 1951, and then studied history at the University of Wisconsin LaCrosse before transferring to the University of Wisconsin Madison where in 1957 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Therapy. Nancy married Robert William Piper in June 1960 and they lived in Oakland, California for two years before returning to Milwaukee and eventually ending the marriage in 1968. Back in Milwaukee, Nancy began her career as a Speech, Language, and Hearing Pathologist for the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS). She worked tirelessly for 35 years to help people improve their ability to communicate. Her favorite part of the job was helping children. In 1974, Nancy met the love of her life William Albert “Bill” Hester through MPS, and they were married in 1985. She elected to not change her name again and remained Nancy Piper. Nancy always had a dog and a cat, and for many years she owned a horse. Nancy loved art, music, and animals. She enjoyed family history, reminiscing, and talking with friends. She was generous, kind, and had a keen sense of humor with a wonderful laugh. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her two older brothers: Francis Michael “Frank” Synowicz and Robert Joseph “Bob” Synovitz. Nancy is survived by nieces, nephews, and three step-children. A private interment will be held at St. Adalbert Cemetery. A heart-felt thank you to the nurses and social workers at Milwaukee Catholic Home and to the St. Camillus hospice caregivers.
