Mildred Gau Hicks Born in Conover, Wisconsin, Millie graduated with a Bachelor of Education from the University of Wisconsin, Whitewater in 1941. There she met Donald Gau, her husband of over 59 years, and eventually moved with him to West Allis. In addition to raising two children, Millie worked as an educator for three decades as both a teacher and administrator. She received her Masters degree from Whitewater in 1973, and became Dean of the Business Division of Milwaukee Area Technical College, retiring in 1986. Her career achievements included Whitewaters Distinguished Alumni Service Award and recognition as Wisconsins Outstanding Business Educator in 1982. Throughout her life, Millie was active in her community, serving on dozens of boards, associations, and organizations over the course of five decades. An early pioneer of word processing, she gave presentations throughout Wisconsin explaining the usage and application of the new technology during the 1970s, and was published in 1980. She was a lifelong member of the Jackson Park Lutheran Church congregation. After Donalds passing in 2003, she married Fred Hicks. They lived together in Greendale until his death several years later. She is survived by her son, Robert, her daughter, Judith, her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at JACKSON PARK LUTHERAN CHURCH, ELCA (4535 W. Oklahoma Ave., Milwaukee) on Saturday April 22 starting at 10AM until time of service at 12PM. Private family burial at Highland Memorial Park.
