Michael Mitchell Berzowski Obituary
Michael (Mike) Mitchell Berzowski was born on March 27, 1940 and he passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024. He is survived by his best friend and wife of 57 years, Jan Lee Berzowski who supported him throughout their entire marriage. He is also survived by his brother Patrick Berzowski and son, Jeffrey M. Berzowski, Esq. and daughter-in-law Karla Berzowski and their children, Alex, Ella and Lucy, his daughter Julia A. Martinez and son-in-law Stephen Martinez, MD and their children Jake and Kevin and daughter Jessica L. Perlewitz and son-in-law Patrick Perlewitz. His parents, Irene and Mitchell Berzowski and his brother Brian predeceased him.
Mike practiced law for 55 years in a firm bearing his name and was a Certified Public Accountant and previously practiced accounting at Price Waterhouse. He attained the rank of and retired as a Major General in the United States Army.
Mike was a member or life member in numerous professional, honorary, business, civic, religious and fraternal organizations and held multiple leadership positions. He served four terms as the President of the Wisconsin Club. He also was a member of the Sovereign Military Order of Jerusalem and attained the rank of Grand Croix and received its Distinguished Service Medal.
Mike was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations throughout his life. He was particularly proud of his US Army Distinguished Service Medal; his Marquette University Law School distinguished alumnus of the year award and his Leaders in Law award.
Mike was the original Chair of the Polish Center of Wisconsin Facility Committee and served in that capacity for 15 years. During that time he led two major fund raising campaigns for the Polish Center.
Mike enjoyed driving Cadillacs (since age 25), fishing, music, playing the piano, spending time with his grandchildren and motorcycling (for 37 years). He was also very fond of mentoring others and seeing them succeed.
Visitation will be held at the Polish Center of Wisconsin (6941 S. 68th Street, Franklin, WI) on Thursday, June 27, 2024 from 3:30 PM until time of service at 5 PM. Private interment at Southern Wisconsin Veteran Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the US Army War College Foundation in Carlisle, PA or to the National Museum of the United States Army in Ft. Belvoir, VA.
