KALAWA, MICHAEL L. Age 66 years. Michael walked through the gates of heaven and into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 30, 2013 after fighting a courageous six year battle with cancer. There also to greet him were his parents, Louis and Helen (nee Gorski) Kalawa and many other relatives and friends. Michael was the beloved husband and soul-mate of Terri (nee Kubatzki) for almost 27 years. Loving Dad to Jamie (Jenni) Horbinski. Proud Papa to Colton, Cooper and Caiden Horbinski. Dear brother to Barbara (Leonard) Machajewski, Louise (late Tim) Czajkowski, and Maggie (late Paul) Remm. Cherished godson of Dolores Lohmeyer. Brother-in-law to Susie Kubatzki, Judy Santarius, Rick (Lana) Kubatzki, Tom (Doris) Kubatzki, the late Jeff Kubatzki, Randy (Diane) Kubatzki and Jane Kubatzki-Torres. Further survived by many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, golf buddies and friends, and Nicki, his canine companion of 10 years. Affectionately known as "Mickey" or "Mixter", Michael attended Sts Cyril and Methodius Catholic Grade School and was a 1964 graduate of Milwaukee Boys Tech High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin and Milwaukee Area Technical College. Michael proudly served his country in the 440th Tactical Airlift Wing of the United States Air Force Reserve, and was a retiree of the City of Milwaukee, Bureau of Street Lighting and Electrical Services. Michael was an avid golfer and on September 21, 1989, he had a hole-in-one. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 from 3:00 pm until time of the Vigil service at 6:00 pm at the Max A.Sass & Sons Mission Hills Chapel, 8910 West Drexel Avenue (off of Loomis Road) in Franklin, WI. Further Visitation at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 7963 South 116th St., Franklin, WI, on Monday, May 6 from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Entombment at St. Adalbert Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Sloan-Ketterling Cancer Center or the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association. Special thanks goes to Michael's "Best Buddies Forever" for their care and support throughout his illness , Bill (Reenie) Bieganski, Pete (Donna) Laufer, Tom (Gail) Schultz, Joel (Susan) Novak, Dennis (Pam) Horbinski, Frank Czerwinski and the "Playground Gang", Billy (Judy) Jablonski, Jack Borkowitz, Jerry (Donna) Pinczkowski, Kenny (Karen) Smars and Lenny (Karen) Szwiec. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Santosh Krishnan, Dr. Jonathan Treisman, Dr. Kenneth Bastin, Dr. William McCullough, their staffs, and the staff of St. Luke's Medical Center, Golden Living-Heritage Square Rehab Center and the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association for the compassionate care provided to Michael. Keep your head down, your arm straight and keep swinging until we meet again dearest Michael. "GOLF IS MY LIFE, AFTER GOD AND MY WIFE"
