On Wednesday, June 2, 2021, Mike Hilton, loving husband and father of two children, entered the gates of Heaven at the age of 74. Mike was born on December 20, 1946 in Kokomo, Indiana, to Carlton and Sarah (Grainger) Hilton. Mike was the second of eight Hilton children. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse and a Masters degree from Indiana University. He taught for 27 years in the Franklin School District. On December 27, 1975, he married Virginia (Wolf) Hilton. Together, they raised two children, Mary Monica and Matthew Carlton. Mike had a passion for golf and IndyCar racing. His WSGA championships and accolades are extensive and he held the course record at Rivermoor Country Club – his favorite course – for more than 25 years. When he wasn’t playing golf, Mike loved watching IndyCar racing. From 1965 on, he only missed three Indy 500 race days and he loved to tell people about his Indy Racing Experience, where he drove an IndyCar at speeds of up to 158mph at Chicagoland Speedway. Despite his appreciation for driving (golf balls and open-wheel cars), Mike was known for his quick wit and impressive memory, but much more importantly, for being incredibly humble and kind to everyone he met. As a great friend of his put it, Mike was a “blueprint for how to live your life, and that was through kindness for all.” He was a tremendous example for those who knew him of unshakeable faith, kindness and compassion. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Carlton Hilton, mother, Sarah Hilton, father-in-law Henry Wolf, mother-in-law June Wolf, brother-in-law Robert Wolf and two nephews, Adam Thomas and Brady Noonkester. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hilton, his two children, Monica Hilton and Matthew Hilton, and two granddaughters, Mia Hilton and Dominika Hilton. Mike was also survived by seven siblings: Michele (Jim) Butcher, Monelle Cook, Mark (Cathy) Hilton, Molly (Tim) White, Monica (Patrick) Thomas, Matthew (Barb) Hilton and Marilyn (Dennis) Sherrill, and six siblings-in-law: Larry (Pat) Wolf, Mary Blaney, Elaine (Bill) Gentry, Jean (Brian) Schmidt, Chris (Mark) Hennessy, dear nieces and nephews and countless friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at 2:00-3:15 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 3:30 p.m. at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Muskego, WI. The family is preparing a Mike Hilton Memorial Tree at Mike’s favorite golf course, Rivermoor Country Club in Waterford, Wisconsin. Friends and family may choose to support the memorial in lieu of flowers.
