Michael Brock Wiken
A few hours shy of his 79th birthday, on October 28, Michael Wiken walked through the open door of the Enchanted Cottage. The home God prepared for Mike, where he became his whole self. All ten toes, no more Mikey, nine toes as he would say. His eyesight restored, so 50+ years of National Geographic can now be read. No more post-polio syndrome from childhood polio or busted knees from high school football. Your dry sense of humor will surely be missed.
Birthdays will never be the same without hearing your Hippo Birdie Two Ewes and drive your heavenly niece Allison crazy with the children’s song the Grand Old Duke of York. Give your cousin Danny that death grip handshake as you always did, when you see him again.
Reacquaint yourself with your mother (Dolores (Zielinski)) and father (Ernulf Wiken). Erne, who immigrated from Norway, which made you the first generation American on the Norwegian side of your family, when you were born on October 29, 1944.
So, it comes to who you were, Michael Brock Wiken.
You graduated from Muskego H.S. in 1962. When you attended UW Milwaukee for a short time, you joined the drill team known as the Pershing Rifles. Due to the conflict in Vietnam, in 1966 you took your oath to your country, and joined the Army Reserves. Through hard work and devotion, you rose to the rank of 1st Seargent before being honorably discharged, in 1984. When it comes to employment, Cleaver-Brooks was always where you were the happiest. Happiest because that’s where you met Elizabeth Kramer and who you married in 1985. With that marriage you had an instant family with your step-son Robert Williams. In 1987 you became the proud father of Michael “Brock” Wiken II.
At age 64, you finished the college education you started so many years before. Graduating from University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science in business and a master’s degree in business. You never stopped your pursuit of knowledge.
In 2008 Robert married Edyta Kowalkowski. They welcomed your Granddaughters Ewelina in 2011 and Zofia joined us in 2013. Brock completed our family marrying Crystal Schutta in 2016.
You will be missed by all of us, including your sister Kaaren Wiken and your brother-in-law Tom Rauschke. In-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and your church family, all of whom you have prayed for. Keep us in your prayers and the world we live in which currently needs it too. Your love for your Norwegian heritage and the culture surrounding it, and how much of a fighter you were in the end, we know the halls of Valhalla welcome you. From there we know you will be watching over us until we meet again.
