Bernie & Melba's Heavenly Lodge officially opened January 2nd, 2023.
Edgar and Minnie Lindstrom welcomed Melba Lavone into our world on October 15th, 1929. Melba was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan and raised in Kingsford. Lloyd, Melba, Gordon and Carole worked the land and reveled in their Swedish heritage.
Alas, Melba and Carole got fed up with the land and moved to Milwaukee. They worked at Allen-Bradley and enjoyed their new surroundings. Melba often sang with entertainers and big bands at The Eagles Club where she met a dashing pugilist and aspiring entrepreneur named Bernie.
They fell in love. They partnered to build a family and several businesses. They shared a love for family, a dedication to others and a work ethic second to none. Mom may best be remembered for Bernie and Melba's Pinelodge but also oversaw their ventures in real estate and served as the matriarch of Buck Bradley's Saloon & Eatery.
Melba gave freely to others and treasured her sons and daughter. She will be missed but more so celebrated for a life well lived and a job well done.
Melba is survived by her daughter Vicki Gilbert, son Walter Paget (Karen), eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sister Carole Bevilacqua (the late Robert) and sister-in-law Rose Pfeifer (Berney).
Melba was preceded into Eternal Life by her husband Bernard Sr., sons Bernard Jr. and Daniel (Jacqueline), brothers Lloyd Lindstrom (the late Agnes) and Gordon Lindstrom (the late Jane).
Our family would like to extend our thanks to those who helped in providing for Mom's care and comfort over the past decade plus. We extend our gratitude to HomeCare Assistance, Azura Memory Care at Merrill Farms and Moments Hospice.
In particular, we are grateful for the services of Chad and Jen from Moments Hospice and Gretchen, Santanna and Leshea from Azura Memory Care. Finally, a special thanks to Vickie Etringer. Vickie started as a caregiver to Mom over a decade ago only to become a friend and then family. Thank you so much for your care and love.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at The Church of the Gesu (1145 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee) on Friday, January 20 from 8:45 am to 9:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
