She graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, MI as Valedictorian of the class of 1953, earned a Bachelors degree in Biology from Aquinas College in 1957 and earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of Colorado in 1964. Mary enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Biology teacher, making a very significant impact on her many students over 27 years at South Milwaukee High School. On June 22, 1971, Mary was united in marriage to Jack Nault, a widowed father of two young children. The family resided in Greendale for many years. Upon retirement in 1990, Mary and Jack travelled extensively with family and friends. Maui was a particularly favorite destination, including a family trip to see the last sunset of the century at Big Beach. Mary and Jack also pursued educational and athletic endeavors during their retirement years together. In 1995, they both competed in the Senior Olympics in San Antonio, TX. Mary participated in the 400, 800 and 1500 meter races. She also completed Race For The Cure and Al's Run many times over the years. After Jack passed away in late 2000, Mary began a new chapter in her life. Continuing her focus on lifelong learning, she returned to extensive travel, pursued many ongoing education opportunities and became a voracious reader. Mary was also an active volunteer during this time, particularly sharing her joy of learning with the Reading Buddies program in the Greendale elementary schools. She spent meaningful time with many special friends and was very involved in actively supporting the interests and endeavors of her four grandchildren.
