Mary A. Hill, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 26, 1941, in Grand Rapids, MI, to the late Arthur and Anne (Japenga) Smitter. Mary's journey began in the scenic surroundings of Grand Rapids, where she grew up alongside her beloved siblings Virginia, Ruth, Arthur, and Yvonne. It was in Michigan that she met the love of her life, John Hill, on a horse farm—a meeting that would lead to a lifetime of shared passions and dreams. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family, including their three sons, Steven (Stacy), Daniel (Laura), and Jonathan, who brought them immense joy and pride.

The Hill family found their slice of paradise on a horse farm in Waukesha, where Mary and John trained quarter horses with a dedication that spoke volumes of their love for these majestic creatures. Her work on the farm was not just a job but a calling that she embraced with every fiber of her being. Mary's love for animals extended beyond horses; she was an ardent dog lover, rescuing many over the years, including her last cherished companion, Beanie.

Mary's zest for life was infectious, and her commitment to her community was evident in her volunteer work at a State Park in Michigan. She was a woman of many interests, including caring for sled dogs in her younger years, a pursuit that showcased her adventurous spirit and her fondness for the great outdoors.

Retirement saw Mary relocating to the tranquil setting of Silver Lake, Michigan, where she enjoyed the serenity of nature. Mary relished the role of grandmother to Sarah, Jonathan, and Joey, and great-grandmother to Mikey, Jade, and Jaxon. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to thrive in the lives of these young ones.

Known for her friendly demeanor, Mary could light up a room with her presence. Her optimism was as enduring as her courage, traits that served her well throughout her life's challenges and triumphs. Those who knew Mary will remember her for her outgoing nature and the joy she found in simple pleasures, like listening to her favorite band, Dr. Hook.

As we bid farewell to Mary, we celebrate a life splendidly lived and cherish the moments we shared. Her spirit, eternally friendly, optimistic, and courageous, will forever resonate in the lives she touched. Mary's journey may have reached its sunset, but her light will continue to shine brightly in the legacy she leaves behind. In accordance with her wishes no services will be held at this time.
