Marlene Esther Sobczak


(nee Wegner) of Wind Lake, WI, was called home to her Savior on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at the age of 85 years.

She was born on June 24, 1938, to the late Walter and Mabel (nee Baas) Wegner in Cudahy, WI. She went to Muskego Graded School then on to West Milwaukee High School. She was involved in 4H where she won many ribbons for clothing and home ground improvements, taught Sunday School, and sang in the church choir. After high school she worked at Mueller Climatrol as office staff.


Marlene married Richard Sobczak on July 23, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Tess Corners, WI. They built and made their home in Wind Lake, WI.


After marriage, Marlene spent her time as a homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and canning. Marlene spent the majority of her time in the kitchen. She took a few cake decorating classes and decorated cakes for family events and friends. Marlene did that for many years until she was no longer physically able to do so. Marlene loved spending time with her grandchildren.


As a married couple, Marlene and Richard enjoyed their sheepshead card club with their dear friends, polka dancing, and traveling all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean with their close friend and relatives.

Marlene loved the Milwaukee Brewers and listened to Bob Uecker on the radio and watched the game on TV. She enjoyed attending many Brewers games at various stadiums across the country and went on a Brewers cruise in the Caribbean.

Marlene leaves behind her loving husband of 63 years, Richard J. Sobczak; two children, Cheryl (David) Weise and Scott Sobczak; seven grandchildren, Sarah (Brett) Lawrence, Robert Seamars, Austin (Desi) Sobczak, Victoria (Evan) Scofield, and Joshua Seamars, Trenton (Tara) Sobczak, Travis (Fiancé Brittany) Sobczak ; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Wes (Ruth Ann) Wegner; sister-in-law, Sandra (Robert) Czubek; and a niece, Susan Czubek, nephews, Jim (Kory) Czubek, and Steven Czubek, other family and friends.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to caregivers Deanna and Melinda. Also thanks to the nurses and staff at ProHealth Pallative Care (especially Jenny) and Home Care Hospice (especially nurse Pam and health aide Ann) for all their help, care, and compassion during the last 6 months.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Community Lutheran Church of Oahu. Richard and Marlene spent many wonderful vacations in the Hawaiian Islands.


A visitation will be held on Tuesday November 14th, 2023 at MAX A. SASS & SONS FUNERAL HOME W173 S7629 Westwood Drive, Muskego, WI 53150 from 4:30pm to 7:00pm. Additional visitation will be held on Wednesday November 15th from 10:00 am until 10:45 am with the funeral service at 11am at ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH (S66 W14325 W. Janesville Rd Tess Corners) with burial to follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Tess Corners.
