Marie Stankowski, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at her home on Tuesday, February 5th, at the age of 97. Marie was born in Cudahy, Wisconsin on April 22, 1927, to Stanley & Helen (nee Fedor) Stankowski.

At the age of 13, Marie entered the Felician Sisters Catholic convent, where she lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. During this time, she received her high school and college degrees. After 25+ years of serving the Catholic Church as a teacher and organist, she became a teacher for Milwaukee Public Schools in 1971. She taught elementary education throughout the district, then went on to get her Master's in Education from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. She was a reading resource specialist at Longfellow Elementary until her retirement in 1994 after 22+ years with MPS. She was very proud of her teaching career and helping shape the lives and minds of her students.

She enjoyed sewing, caring for her home and rental property, traveling, and spending time with her family. She was a caring, selfless, and generous person who helped make the lives of everyone around her better. She was like a grandma to the Peters’ kids, helping raise them and spending most of her time with them. She joined them on a Caribbean cruise, as well as a trip abroad to London, England. Marie was the best, and we will all miss her so much. She was our Peddie.

Marie is survived and loved by her sister Marian Kujawa, nieces Robin (Brad) Peters, and Kathy (Dave) Halverson, and nephews Ed (Nicole) Kujawa, and David (Patti) Waszak. Marie was the beloved great-aunt of Brian (Missy) Peters, Melisa (Tom) Cash, Jeff (Erin) Peters, David (Chrissy) Peters, Dan & Elle Kujawa. Marie was a proud and loving great-great aunt of Kensington, McKinley, Leilani, & Brady Peters, Jason, Adam, Preston, Ryan & Kaylee Cash, Landon & Carter Peters, Hailey, Matthew & Brooklyn Peters.
