Margaret M. Eggener

November 27, 1947 — April 30, 2021

Margaret M. Eggener (nee Lewandowski) November 27, 1947 – April 30, 2021 Margaret M. Eggener (nee Lewandowski), 73, passed away suddenly on April 30, 2021, while on a trip to Oklahoma. While her family is shocked and saddened by her unexpected death, they are comforted in the knowledge that Margaret died as she lived – talking, laughing, and among good friends. Margaret was an animal lover, greatly concerned with issues of animal welfare and wildlife conservation. Her special love was for cats; when she was at home, rarely was there not a cat on her lap. Margaret was a theatre lover with a special fondness for comedies. She was a supporter of several Milwaukee companies, as well as a faithful attendee and supporter of American Players Theatre in Spring Green. She loved traveling, especially her almost 20 trips to Ireland in the company of various Murphy relatives. To quote from a postcard that Margaret sent to her AT&T co-workers from Ireland, “The weather is cloudy, with drizzle off and on, but that doesn’t slow us down – it’s dry in the pubs!” Most of all, though, she loved her family. Margaret and her late husband Jim did not have children, but she took great care to make her nieces and nephews know how special they were to her. She was always there to help with anything they needed, or maybe to give a gentle reprimand when necessary. Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband and companion of 42 years, Jim. They were generous donors to numerous charities and organizations, including those devoted to children’s health, veterans’ affairs, conservation and the environment, national parks, animal rescue, and wildlife conservation, among others. Margaret will be remembered for her smile, her great sense of humor, her steadfast devotion to her family and friends, and her generous and loving nature. She will be greatly missed. Margaret is survived by her sisters Jonita Cummings, Ina Jane Johnson (Wilbert), her niece Kim Kunert, her nephews Jeffery Cummings and Dennis F. Johnson, and her great-nephew James Heitzmann, as well as numerous and much loved in-laws in the Eggener family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florian and Loretta (Murphy) Lewandowski. The family would like to give special thanks to good friends Tom Muth and John Schmitz, as well as to Kim and Janice Eggener, for providing much appreciated assistance during a difficult time. A family memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Valley of the Kings Animal Sanctuary, the ASPCA, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
