Mabel Zimmer, a beacon of love and liveliness, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on December 2, 2024—3 years to the day as her beloved husband Wally, at the age of 89. Born on September 26, 1935, Mabel's life was a vivid tapestry of dedication, joy, and the kind of resilience that inspired all who knew her. She was the matriarch of a family that adored her and a friend to many, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and spirited generosity.
Mabel was predeceased by her beloved husband, Wally, with whom she shared 35 years of marriage filled with laughter and mutual support before his passing. Her love story with Wally was one for the ages, and their partnership set a remarkable example for her daughter, Bonnie (Ed Hannon) Henneman. Mabel's joy multiplied with the births of her grandchildren, Nicolette Nee Henneman (Eibar) Ruiz and Tj (Erica) Henneman, and she cherished every moment spent with them. She was blessed to see her family grow and welcome her great-grandchildren Jude Ruiz, Parker Henneman, Brianna Ruiz, Aiden Ruiz, and God willing - the anticipated arrival of Baby Mabel Ruiz with open arms and an overflowing heart.
One of the youngest of a large and loving family, Mabel was preceded in death by siblings Dolores (the late James), Lloyd (the late Barb), George, Les, Michael (Ilene), Darlene (the late Wally), and Marlis and her Nephew Ricky, who was very close to her heart. She is survived by her sister Joyce (the late Jim), who together with Mabel, shared a lifetime of memories and an unbreakable bond. She is further survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mabel was many things but most importantly she was a proud and loving mother to her only daughter Bonnie. She was an accomplished homemaker, infusing her home with love and care. In addition to her role as Mom and sole caretaker, she owned and operated a tavern where she not only served her community but also created a warm and welcoming space for friends and neighbors to gather Mabel's sharp mind and enterprising spirit led her to become a successful business owner.
Mabel had a zest for life that was evident in her many interests. She enjoyed gambling, which she approached with the same enthusiasm and optimism that she did everything else in life. Her hands were rarely still, as she found joy in canning the produce from her garden. Mabel enjoyed hosting her family, cooking, baking, and decorating for every holiday, creating a home that was both beautiful and inviting.
Mabel enjoyed the ritual of getting dressed up, embracing the grace and poise she carried throughout her life. She had an infectious energy that could light up any room, and her presence was a gift to those around her, just by being herself.
Described by those who knew her best as loving, courageous, and spirited, Mabel embodied these qualities in all she did. Her love was a constant, unwavering force; her courage shone through in the face of life's challenges, and her spirit was indomitable, lifting the spirits of everyone she encountered.
Mabel's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the strength of the human spirit. Her memory will be treasured by all who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy will continue to inspire. Though she has left this earthly realm, the impact of her love and the echo of her laughter will resonate for generations to come. Mabel Zimmer was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
