Leona R. Katorski

November 25, 1922 — July 17, 2020

Leona R. Katorski (nee Schmidt) Called home to the Lord on July 17, 2020 at the age of 97 and reunited with her cherished husband and “Honey” of 66 years, Leonard Katorski. Loving and devoted mother to Janice (Gregory) Loman, Gregory (Valentina), and Mary Beth Katorski. Proud and loving “Granny” of Michelle (Christopher) Moudry, Jessica (Steve) Voerding, Steve (Lynn) Loman, and Nathan (Jenna) Katorski, and great-grandchildren Victoria and Elise Moudry, Anisa and Reya Voerding, Melania, Lucas, and Bennett Loman, and Hazel and Louis Katorski. Special friend of Mildred (the late Frank) Lisowicz and Sylvia (the late Mickey) Dargiewicz. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Leona was a devout Catholic who lived out her faith through her love for her family and friends, and service to others. She had the heart of a caregiver, and was always willing to help, no matter how big or small the need. Leona was active in her church, a member of the Christian Women Society, and served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass and at St. Luke’s Hospital. A longtime member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Leona was the leading fundraiser in recent years for the annual Friends of the Poor Walk. Leona was also an active member of Catholic Financial Life Chapter 306. An excellent cook and baker, Leona loved sharing her delicious creations with family and friends. Her homegrown dill pickles were a tasty addition to many sandwiches. Leona extended hospitality to all, and she especially loved hosting celebrations for holidays and other special occasions. Spending summer weekends with Len at their lake home and sharing the beautiful surroundings of “Len & Lee’s Whispering Pines” with family and friends brought Leona much joy. Leona began work at St. Francis Hospital on the day it opened, and retired from the data processing department after 32 wonderful years. Most of all, Leona will be remembered for her devotion to and love for her family. The family offers special thanks to Joan Meyers, Rochelle Ballman, Carol Letteer, Fr. Karl Acker, Fr. Robert Turner, Doreen Petrovic, and the many neighbors who supported Leona in so many ways in the years after our Dad’s passing. To continue Leona’s legacy of helping others, in lieu of flowers memorials to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, 9601 W. Silver Spring Dr., Milwaukee, WI 53225 or online at www.svdpmilw.org would be greatly appreciated. Private Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Alexander Church. Interment Holy Trinity Cemetery. “A Mother holds her children’s hands for a while…their hearts forever.”
