LaVerne Clara Decker (nee Martin) passed away at the age of 93 on March 23,2024, to be reunited with her beloved Jack. Born on October 8,1930, to Edwin and Margaret Decker (nee Ruf) in West Bend, Wisconsin. High school was very hectic both academically and socially. Cheerleader and on the honor roll for four years. LaVerne then went to Prospect Hall, a business college. She was hired at Mobil Oil and worked there for 10 years as a secretary. She traveled to Hawaii for the first time. After LaVerne was married to Jack Decker in May 1959, she became a scout leader and a volunteer at her son Marty’s school. She and Jack became mentors for an engagement class at St. Alphonsus Parish, Greendale, WI. They also worked with the religious classes one evening per week. LaVerne also volunteered in the parish office one day per week and was involved in the parish mailings.
A year later LaVerne began volunteering at the Greendale Library one full day each week, as well as the Lions Club for all their functions in the village where food was involved.For their 25th wedding anniversary, Jack and LaVerne traveled to Hawaii. After Jack passed away in June 1999, LaVerne began traveling extensively. She covered a great deal of the United States, went to Europe twice, Hawaii once more, as well as two cruises.LaVerne was an avid reader, big-time fan of old-time movies and started an embroidery business.
She leaves a son Marty Decker (Lynn), granddaughter Susan, brother-in-law Jerry (Nina), nephews Joe and Nathan, Jeff Martin (Ginna), Tom Martin (Chong), Steve Martin, Bonnie Martin and many other friends and relatives.
LaVerne never learned to drive an automobile. Therefore, she relied on her many beloved friends and neighbors to get her around. She was always grateful for all who helped her out.
Visitation is Wednesday April 10, 2024, at St Alphonsus Parish, 6060 W. Loomis Road, Greendale, WI at 10 am, Funeral mass at 11am with inurnment immediately following at Good Hope Cemetery, 4141 S. 43rd, Greenfield WI. In lieu of flowers, gifts to St Alphonsus Parish are appreciated.
