Larry Gettelman, a cherished pillar of his family, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on March 28, 1935, in Milwaukee, WI, he remained a life-long resident of Muskego, WI. Larry will be dearly remembered for his warmth, dedication, and the joy he brought to all who knew him.
A beloved husband, Larry was married to his love, Majel, for 68 beautiful years. Together, they built a legacy of affection and commitment that stood as an example to all. He was a loving father to his children, Bill (Roxanne) and the late Cindy, imparting values of integrity and kindness. Larry's role as a grandpa to Brian (Kristin), Amy (Steve), Ryan (Maura), and Michelle (Andrew), and as a great-grandpa to Alexis, Drake, Kaylee, Everett, Landon, Adam, and Axel, was filled with moments of laughter and lessons of life, leaving lasting impressions on their hearts.
Beyond his family, Larry was known for his spirit of service. He dedicated 36 years as a custodian at Hales Corners Lutheran School, thriving amidst the buzz of school life and the energy of children. Larry's gentle nature made him a favorite among students and staff alike.
In life, Larry collected memories and moments like treasures. His passion for gardening blossomed each year, loving this season most for the planting of new flowers and plants. His shelves were lined with ornate pencil sharpeners and porcelain bird statues, each piece a story, a hobby that spoke volumes of his eye for detail and the simple pleasures he cherished.
Larry leaves behind his loving family, including his brother John (Karen) and sister Carol, and sister-in-law Sandra, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will continue to honor his memory by embodying the kindness he exuded every day. Larry's legacy of love and devotion to his beloved family will be forever imprinted in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation at Max Sass Funeral Home, Mission Hills Chapel, on Tuesday June 11, 2024, from 4 PM to 6 PM with a funeral service at 6 PM. Burial the next day at Wisconsin Memorial Park at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Larry’s name to the American Cancer Society.
