Kristin “Krysia” Gnatowski (nee Daca) was called to be with God on August 31, 2023, at the age of 73.
Born on April 5, 1950 in Kwidzyn, Poland, Kristin immigrated to Milwaukee in 1963 with her parents and siblings. She was a proud graduate of South Division High School. Early on, her social life centered around the Polonia Soccer Club where she was able to maintain her strong Polish culture attending many dances and picnics with an extensive group of close-knit friends.
Kristin found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed mending clothes for her family members and would often practice sewing with her granddaughters. She was an amazing cook and made everything from scratch. She never used a recipe, she did everything “na oko.” She was especially known for her delicious soups and would often receive requests for her world famous pickle soup from family and friends. She had a wanderlust spirit and enjoyed traveling. She made frequent trips to Poland over the years to visit her extended family and friends.
She worked for many years in the banking and insurance industries. After retiring from Old Republic Insurance, she moved back to Poland and would come back to the U.S. for extended visits to see her family.
Kristin was preceded in death by her parents Victoria and Edward Daca. She will be missed by her husband Janusz Gnatowski; daughters Margaret Edwards and Lisa (Peter) Todd; stepson Mateusz Gnatowski; siblings Richard (Karen) Daca, Andy (Vicki) Daca, Regina (Gary) Knight, and Stefka Roclawska, her half-sister in Poland. Kristin's legacy will continue through her grandchildren Jordan and Lauren Edwards, and Ashley and Emily Todd, as well as her nephews, cousins and many other family members and friends in the U.S. and Poland.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 16 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (6060 W. Loomis Rd. in Greendale). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon at the church following the visitation.
