Kathryn Elizabeth Slater Kathryn “Katie” Slater (nee Krucky) passed away peacefully on September 19 after a lengthy battle with dementia. Loving wife of the late Dennis Slater, Sr. for 36 years until his untimely death in 1993. Devoted mother of Dennis, Jr. (Cathie), Dawn (Pete), Diane Gonzalez (Joe), Dan (Patt) and Dina Ziegenhorn (Glenn). Beloved grandmother to DJ Slater (Carol), Lindsey Breitzman (Mark), Miranda Jreige (Chafic), Astrid Morrison, Hunter West, Sadie Houser, Maya Houser, Danielle Slater, Gina Slater (Jon), Nick Ziegenhorn and Kayla Ziegenhorn. Beloved great-grandmother of Rose and Lily Slater, and Evelina and Leonardo Jreige. Sister of Joseph Krucky, Jr. (Connie) and Robert Krucky (the late Mary Ann). Preceded in death by sisters Leona Krucky, Anna Taucher, Doris Bady and Margaret Berendt. Also loved and survived by nieces, nephews other family and friends Katie is the daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Krucky. She was born on September 16, 1938. Katie grew up in Cudahy before moving to the southside of Milwaukee when she married and started a family. Katie worked at the Marine Bank (Bank One/Chase) from 1970 until her retirement in 1996 as a sorter operator in the processing department on third shift, while raising her family during the day. Her children aren’t sure if she ever got a full night’s sleep. Katie will be remembered for her delicious chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies, which she made for every occasion, and her steady diet of Kopps frozen custard, Pepsi, Cousin’s subs, taco Doritos, shrimp, and above all, anything chocolate. She loved classic movies starting with West Side Story and Breakfast at Tiffanys, and was an avid Brewers fan. More than anything, Katie was dedicated to her family and friends, caring for grandchildren, sending birthday and holiday cards to a long, long list in her address book. She volunteered at Mount Carmel nursing home for over 40 years and the parish festival at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Katie was an avid blood donor for decades. Funeral visitation will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., service to follow at Max A. Sass & Sons Westwood Chapel, W173S7629 Westwood Drive, Muskego, WI. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society (because of her love of cats) and to dementia research in Katie’s name.
