Karyl Gertrude Masset

(nee Fleming) of Big Bend, Wi. and beloved matriarch was peacefully born to Eternal Life January 29, 2025 at the age of 85. Karyl was born in Wind Lake on December 8, 1939 to the late Clarence and Roselyn (Gonnering) Fleming. At the age of 12, she found fun in music following in her parents’ footsteps. She played the piano accordion and b-flat tenor sax with her siblings in their local Mukwonago family band, “The Fleming Family Jolly Mixers.” After attending school, she met the late Anton (Tony Masset) at a Muskego dance hall and they married on July 9, 1960, at the old St. James Catholic Church in Mukwonago. She stayed home with their three children. In 2019, they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Their home was the heart of many social functions, where Karyl busily prepared countless meals throughout the 63 years at their residence. Karyl was a woman of many hats, and greatly devoted to caring for her family. In her younger years, she cleaned taverns and churches, delivered newspapers for the Waukesha Freeman, was a bagger at the former Mukwonago Pick N Save, making countless friends, and later, as a long-time parish member of St. Joe’s Big Bend, sang in the choir for some time.

She was an avid fisher, enjoyed tending to her flower beds, never missed a Milwaukee Brewers game, Packers football, shooting pool, doing puzzles & crosswords, and Boston Terriers. She took great pride in her patriotism. Her happiest times were doing anything with family; whether it was attending local parades, St. Joe’s Fun Fest, annual trips to North Dakota, her grandchildren’s sports and activities, having cook outs, or going to Holy Hill. Karyl loved playing accordion, ice fishing on Phantom Lake, watching WWE wrestling, canning vegetables from her garden, polka dancing, waltzes, and country western music.

Karyl will forever be remembered for her likeable sense of humor, sincere charitability and generosity, and was the epitome of perseverance. Overcoming many trials in life, she fought fearlessly, with all her energy until the very end.

Karyl was the loving wife of the late Anton Masset. Beloved mother of Gwen Williamson, Gary Masset and the late Gail Masset. Caring grandmother of six (Valerie Rivest, Scott Le May, Jeffery Williamson, Jennifer Williamson, Alicia De Laney, Anthony Sydlewski), and proud great-grandmother of 10 (Emma, Callie, Lucas, Amelia, Evelyn, Adeline, Lucille, Cienna, Salvatore, Kingston). Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers (Charles, Clarence, Guy, Ralph) and 1 sister (Marlene). Karyl will be greatly missed by her dog Trixi.
