Judith Ann Kaufmann 9/18/1942- 2/3/2021 Delafield Judy was born in Oconomowoc, WI to Dorothy (nee Comstock) and Oren Gunderman. After attending Oconomowoc High School, she attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. It was while she was at UW-Whitewater she met the love of her life, Darryl, on a blind date. Despite Oren’s hard and fast rule that courtship must last one year before marriage, they were married on August 29th, 1964. Oren said he would make an exception, but just once. Her wedding gift from Darryl was a set of golf clubs, and it made her cry. Darryl and Judy moved into faculty living at St. Johns Military Academy where Darryl taught and coached. She loved Darryl and soon loved golf. It was at St. John’s and on the golf course where they made some of their dearest lifelong friends. They built their first house in Delafield in 1968, not far from the military academy. Due to golf requiring a foursome, 2 children were specified. In January 1970, Michael made his debut. Michael was neat and meticulous. Christopher followed in 1974. Christopher was not neat, nor was he meticulous. Judy was a nursery school teacher when the boys were growing up and was lucky enough to be able to keep an eye on Chris. She worked as a substitute teacher in the Kettle Moraine School District while the boys grew up, and they provided wonderful childhoods to the boys filled with golf, vacationing, and showing the boys simply how to be good people. The boys eventually went off to college and she and Darryl continued to live in the house they built together. After retirement, the golf and travel continued, as did the two of them-together. Their first grandchild, Auna, made her world debut in 1996, with grandchild #2-Freddy debuting in 2006. Her grandchildren were her most prized possessions. When Darryl passed in 2011, she continued to be fiercely independent and active, beating cancer several times throughout her life. She continued to golf as much as possible, often traveling to warmer climes to do so. She cherished her time on the course with her close friends and confidants. She loved to talk with her grandchildren and was fortunate enough to watch them grow into amazing human beings. She lived a full, wonderful life and was loved by so many. Judy passed in the night in the home that she and Darryl built together, in the home where they raised their boys. She led a well lived life and lived it as she saw fit. She is preceded in death by her son Michael, her husband Darryl, her brother David Gunderman, and her parents Oren and Dorothy Gunderman. She is survived by her grandson Freddy (Milwaukee, WI), her granddaughter Auna Kaufmann-Schwartz (Hudson, WY), Freddy’s mother Juli Kaufmann (Milwaukee, WI), her son Christopher and his partner Elizabeth Fernandez (Madison, WI,) countless friends, golfers, and extended family members. A celebration of life will be held in the future when it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations to Judy’s favorite charity, the Ronald McDonald House, are appreciated. Her family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time. It is greatly appreciated.
