Navy Symbol Malczewski, Joseph J. Found peace on September 14, 2014 at the age of 75. Devoted husband of Nancy (nee Skurzewski) for 32 years. Dear dad of Pamela (Russell) Plachinski, James (Kerry), Martin (Pamela) Matty and Jed (Debbie). Proud grandpa of Stacy (Jason) Parent, Joseph Stritchko, Allison Plachinski, Jamie (Beth) Kernan, Katie, Matthew and Joshua Malczewski and Brandon and Megan Matty. Great grandpa of Jackson Joseph Parent. Brother of Patricia (the late Lou) Herzog. Survived by his sister-in-law and best friend Gloria (the late Neal) Tasse. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation Friday 3-6:30 pm with a service and military honors at 6:30 pm at the Max A. Sass & Sons South Shore Chapel. Private interment Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Joe proudly served his country honorably in the United States Navy on active and reserve duty for eight years. Seventeen years after graduating from high school Joe enrolled in college under the GI Bill and received his college degree in marketing. Joe was an industrial painter and welder by trade, after earning his college degree he spent the next 35 years as a production supervisor. He is a retiree of Caterpillar Tractor Company, Cooper Power Systems and Milsco Manufacturing. After retirement Joe drove for the Airport Connection for five years, which was a job he thoroughly enjoyed and that suited his sociable personality. Joe liked nothing better than to regale those he met with tales of his Navy days, fishing stories, travel experiences and races across Lake Michigan when he crewed on the sailboat Banshee. He was an avid fisherman who fished many lakes in Wisconsin, Canada, Tennessee, Minnesota and Lake Erie. When Joe wasn't fishing he traveled extensively to Europe, the South Pacific and Hawaii on his favorite mode of travel, cruise ships. The majority of Joe's life was spent in service to others, he is a lifetime member of Amvets, where he served as the Post #4 Commander a number of times as well as being selected the Wisconsin State Commander of the year. He served on the Post #4 color guard for many years. He was the Scoutmaster at St. Adalbert School for eight years and is also a member of the Association of Destroyer Veterans (Tin Can Sailors). Joe will be dearly missed by family and friends.
