John W. McCarthy of Big Bend passed away at Our House Senior Living in Whitewater on March 6, 2017 at the age of 85. He was born July 22, 1931 in Fredonia, WI to Thomas and Eva McCarthy. Survived by his wife Elizabeth McCarthy of 48 years and by four children Joseph (Tina) McCarthy, John (Briana) McCarthy, Marie (Mike) Crawford and Anne (Scott) Michels and by 8 grandchildren. Also survived by his brother James (Marilyn) McCarthy and Paul (Shirley) McCarthy. Further survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents TJ and Eva McCarthy, half brothers Bernard, Harold, Arthur, Willard, Gerald, William and Thomas. John graduated from Milwaukee Boy's Tech in 1951. He worked at Harnischfeger in Milwaukee for 37 years as a crane engineering estimator. John enjoyed his hobby farm in Big Bend along with the many tractors he collected over the years. He also enjoyed going to farm auctions and tractor shows. He was an avid deer hunter, car show enthusiast and loved road trips. Visitation at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH (S89 W22650 Milwaukee Ave., Big Bend, WI) on Saturday March 11 from 9-10:45AM. Funeral Mass at 11AM. Private family burial.
