John P Martin

Martin John P. John was received into heaven on Friday, August 30, 2013. He was born on January 23, 1941 to his loving parents, Pastor John and Irene Martin, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister and guardian, Marie (Tom) Balistreri, his two compassionate nieces, Jenifer (Kevin) Kramer and Marisa Balistreri, a dear uncle and aunt, Mike (Alice) Raasch, and many cousins and friends with whom he shared happy memories. In 1959, John graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he was a gifted athlete and amateur astronomer. He also attended the former University of Omaha and the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. For most of his adult life, John suffered from schizophrenia, a sometimes misunderstood disease of the brain, which affected his senses and perception, but not his soft heart. In the end, John blessed us all with his innocent ways and his contentment with life's simplest pleasures. He died peacefully from complications of cancer and rarely complained. Visitation at Max A. Sass and Sons, Greenridge Chapel, 4747 S. 60th St. Friday September 6, 12pm-2pm. Funeral service at 2pm, followed by burial at Arlington Cemetery.
