John L. Morrissey

August 6, 1947 — August 10, 2017

Johnny met his Mom, Vernettia, Dad, John L, Brother, Bill and Brother in Law, Fred in heaven. He left his brother, David, Sisters, Sue, Penny (Mark), and Mary, nieces and nephews and their families to continue to share his joy with others. Johnny had a passion for life and when he loved something he pursued it with zest, as seen by his love for Elvis, Michael Jackson, Johnny Cash, his thousands of DVD's and videos and hundreds of books and memorabilia pieces he collected throughout his 70 years. He reminded us of the importance of celebrating life and brought us together for every birthday, especially his own, and every holiday. We will never forget Christmases spent huddled together in the basement, watching John open every gift one at a time, holding each one up for everyone to see with a smile that lit up the room. John was not always able to communicate verbally with ease, but always made sure we listened and took the time to help us understand what he was expressing. He taught us patience and the need to slow down and appreciate life. He loved his family deeply and loved spending time together, especially family vacations in Hayward, WI, spent fishing and sitting around the fire. In lieu of flowers memorials appreciated to the Milwaukee Center for Independent Living. Johnny had a pure heart, bright eyes and the very best laugh that was always contagious. For all his life, he has been the glue that has held us together. We thank God for the amazing gift of his life and will honor that gift by loving one another the way he loved us, with loyalty and grace.
