John B. Gardetto

December 3, 1935 — June 6, 2007

Gardetto, John B. of Muskego, Wisconsin and Naples, Florida, age 71 years, June 6, 2007. Beloved husband of Judy (nee Sweet) for 49 years. Loving father of Nannette (Dewey) Cherek, Luann (Todd) Durand, Johnny (Janice), Greg (Jill) and Gary (Laura). Dearest grandfather of Joe, Ryan, Cody, Kelsey, Kylie, Rachel, Austin, Lauren, Nicholas, Ava and Greta. Further survived by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Ajit Divgi, his staff and the staff at St. Luke’s Medical Center for their loving and compassionate care. John graduated from Don Bosco in 1953 and Marquette University in 1957 after which he went to work in his family’s business, Gardetto’s Bakery. John was president of Gardetto’s until it was sold to General Mills in 1999. He always held a special place in his heart for his large employee family. John always credited his dedicated employees whom he felt privileged to work beside, for his success. His motto was “take care of your employees and the business takes care of itself.” As a family man, businessman and philanthropist, John loved to fill his days surrounded by friends and family entertaining, playing dominos, traveling to Europe or simply sharing a good joke. John received many awards for service and achievement over the years; including induction into the Thomas More (Don Bosco) Hall of Fame, Marquette University’s Distinguished Alumni Award, St. Luke’s Medical Center Philanthropist of the Year Award and the Blood Center of Wisconsin’s Philanthropy Award. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Blood Center of Wisconsin, St. Ann’s Intergenerational Daycare Center or the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at St. Luke’s Medical Center. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 2pm at ST. ALPHONSUS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6060 W. Loomis Road, Greendale. Private interment. Visitation Saturday from 10am to 1:45pm at the Church only.
