Johanna Cubbs

Beloved Wife Mother Grandmother

Teacher Humanitarian

Johanna Cubbs, a brilliant being of light returned to God on November 27, 2022.

Johanna lived a full and extraordinary life as a teacher and then as a Director of Religious Education for two Catholic parishes. She received a bachelor’s degree in education and then went on to earn a master’s degree in religious education and theology at Mundelein College.

Johanna had an enthusiasm for teaching children and an abundance of joy for life. She had a passion for education and was a lifelong learner taking courses well into her 80s. Johanna was a social activist and stood for human rights out of sheer love and concern for all people. She was a warm presence for her family and for anyone who needed kindness and encouragement.

Johanna was a wonderful grandmother and provided endless support and creative activities for her grandchildren making their lives richer through her efforts. Integrating a love of nature and animals into her teaching plans, she cultivated an appreciation for wildlife. Johanna, like her mother Jane, loved flowers and often had a vase of fresh flowers on her table.

Johanna is survived by three daughters Jane Cubbs, Joanne Cubbs (Gene) and Jasmine Allexi and three grandchildren Chandler Metcalf, Orion Allexi and Ariana Allexi. She is pre-deceased by her husband Anthony Cubbs, her brother Edwin Hartman Jr., her father Edwin Hartman and her beloved mother Jane Theis Hartman.

She is survived by many friends far and wide and is loved by all who knew her. We are grateful to have had her with us as long as we did and infinitely blessed to have known her.

Johanna Cubbs was a brilliant star in this universe. Thank you God for giving her to us.
