How to capture the essence of this much-loved man who died far too soon at the age of 63 on October 19? Cancer may have ended Joe’s life, but we are left with an abundance of memories, the central figure of these a “legend” with a big personality and enough charisma for another lifetime or two. Joe had many passions in life; Volleyball, his beloved Chicago Bears, Zydeco, Johnny Cash and Cher (?!), and the Rugby Community. Many mighty “Ruggers” were born of the Boys’ and Girls’ Rugby programs which Joe incepted through the Vernon Park District and many friendships were forged as a result. Joe also coached Flag Football, Baseball and Soccer over the years. As Vernon Park and Rec Director he had a positive impact on the lives of many local youth now grown with families of their own who have reached out with appreciation and fond memories. Most of all, Joe loved his family; his wife of 38 years, Patti, his children who were his pride and joy and who thankfully inherited his notable sense of humor, Joey (Meredith), Jaime and Nick and his grandchildren Elle, Sawyer and Ames. Joe’s happiest of happy places was sitting and watching kids’ cartoons with grandchildren on his lap and dog, Molly, by his side. Joe also leaves his loving and supportive siblings Luan (Chuck), Jim (Gail), Stacy (Greg) and Tom (Kim). He is further survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews and their families and his loving in-laws. We thank everyone for their support, concern and prayers over the past several months. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Carol, and nephew Tommy. Special gratitude is sent to the nurses at the Pro Health Mukwonago Cancer Center who helped Joe face his biggest challenge with dignity and humor and made him feel special with his favorite infusion room #7. Those of you who have been a part of Joe’s life from the softball post game gatherings and flag football coaching days of yore to the battles on the Rugby field and various community events please join us at Bass Bay Brewhouse/Aud Mar Banquet Hall S79W15851 Aud Mar Dr. Muskego on Saturday, November 13 for an open house between the hours of 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. The eulogy will be given at 3 p.m. Joe wished this to be a celebration, so come to share stories, laugh, reconnect, have a beverage or two and say farewell to our family’s “legend”. As Elle and Sawyer would say, “Peace out Papa Z”. If you are considering a memorial, please consider Tommy’s Gift P. O. Box 134 Plano IL 60545 in honor of Joe’s late nephew, Tommy, or the American Cancer Society.
