Joanne Gamez

December 12, 1942 — August 9, 2023

Joanne Gamez, a beacon of love, passion, and wisdom, hath passed from this mortal coil on the ninth day of August in the year of our Lord, 2023. She was born in the chill of winter, on the twelfth day of December 1942, in the city of Milwaukee, WI, and it was there that she also drew her last breath, her soul taking flight due to natural causes.

Born into a family of twelve children, Joanne emerged as a beacon of her lineage, the first of twelve siblings to grace the halls of high school and emerge with a high school diploma. Her thirst for knowledge and her relentless determination were as constant as the northern star, guiding her to a life of accomplishment and fulfillment.

Joanne’s journey of labor began at the Johnson cookie company where she served faithfully as an assembly line worker. Yet beyond her official duties, she was known for her passion for the culinary arts. An avid baker, she often emerged victorious in local baking contests, her creations a testament to her skill, creativity, and love for her craft. Her cakes, resplendent with elaborate decorations, were a sight to behold and a joy to partake. They were, in essence, the edible embodiment of her soul – lovingly crafted, full of sweetness, and shared generously with all.

Bingo was another cherished pastime for Joanne. She found joy in the thrill of the game, and the sweet taste of victory that she often savored. Yet, the greatest joy in her life was the time spent with her beloved husband, Lorenzo, and her family. She reveled in their laughter, their stories, and their shared experiences, cherishing each moment as a priceless gem.

Joanne is survived by her devoted husband, Lorenzo Gamez, five daughters, a host of grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Two of her children, a son, and a daughter, preceded her in death, their memories a testament of her enduring love. As we bid adieu to Joanne Gamez, let us not dwell on the sorrow of her passing, but rather celebrate the richness of her life. Let us remember her for her unwavering love, her fiery passion, and her sage wisdom. She was a woman of substance, a woman of strength, a woman who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Joanne, your memory will continue to inspire and guide us, a testament to the power of love and the strength of the human spirit.

In the words of the great poet Emily Dickinson, “Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality.” Joanne’s love indeed made her immortal, and she will continue to live on in the hearts of those she cherished. Joanne may have departed from this earthly realm, but her spirit, her love, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her loved ones, an eternal flame that will

never be extinguished. Let her life be an inspiration to us all, a reminder of the beauty that can be found in love, passion, and wisdom. She will be sorely missed, yet fondly remembered. Farewell, dear Joanne, until we meet again.
