After 88 years of love, laughter, and looking forward to the next family gathering, Joan Marie Copson passed away at home on October 17, 2024. George Copson, the love of Joan’s life and husband of 61 years, daughter Barbara, and son-in-law Bill Raczynski were first to leave this earthly life and likely first in line to welcome Joan to the heavenly banquet. Together, Joan and George created a home filled with faith and love along with loud cheers for favorite sports teams like the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Adored children Jeffrey (Mary) and Daniel (Jocelyn); grandchildren Chantel Parker, Jennifer (Andrew) Brunn, Christine Shawger, Jessica (Michael) Zieman, Catherine (Christopher) Schirpke, Megan (Philip) Maharaj-Prasad, and Angelique (Michael) Gelia; great-grandchildren Yashawn, Carter, Gwynn, Gavin (special friend Peyton), Sydney, Ryan, Joseph, Jordan, Suhaana, Memphis, and Saniya; sister Janice (Richard) Witkowiak; nieces Helen (Ben) Weber and Jacalyn (Donald) Cebertowicz and sister-in-law Irene Hobbs are left with millions of memories, treasured traditions, and great giggles from time with their mother, grandma “GiGi,” sister, best friend, and Aunt Joan. Many thanks to Dr. Laura Duncan for many years of compassionate care.
Joan’s life will be celebrated on October 28 with a visitation from 9:00 – 10:45 AM and Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Milwaukee’s Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church (3722 S. 58th St.), followed by a private burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Franciscan Peacemakers, Humane Society of Wisconsin, and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
