Jesus "Chuy" Cortez

Jesus “Chuy” Cortez, born Felipe de Jesus Cortes, 94, of Milwaukee, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, March 11, 2022. Born in Chacuiloca, Tepechitian, Zacatecas, Mexico on January 6, 1928. Preceded in death by his parents Catarino Cortes and Abigail Torres, beloved wife Angelina, sister Barbarita (Salvador) Cornejo, companion Marlene Cruz and sons Lazaro “Les” and Margarito “Mark” Perez. Survived by children Jesse (Ann), Gilbert (Maria), Angelina (Peter) Arenas and Emerita (Joe) Villa; grandchildren Laura, Daniel, Andrew (Catherine) Perez, Tina (Thomas) Bruss, Jesse, Tony, Mark, Cecilia, Mario, Elisa (Johnny) Lavin, Gilbert, Daniel (Karly) Cortez, Steven and Jeremy Arenas; 15 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and many friends. Chuy loved playing the guitar and serenading everyone on their birthday. He was an avid bowler and was proud of his strikes. Chuy enjoyed playing Loteria with his friends every night after dinner, of course served with jalapeños. Visitation at the ST. STEPHENS LUTHERAN CHURCH (1136 S 5th St., Milwaukee) on Thursday, March 24, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at 11:00 AM. Entombment will take place at the Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the United Community Center of Milwaukee.
