Jean M Frey

Jean M. Frey (Hartjes) passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Tudor Oaks in Muskego, WI after a long battle with Cancer. She was 84.

Jean was born August 18, 1940, in Appleton, WI to Greg and Aleta Hartjes. Sister to Jan Fary (Hartjes). She attended grade school and high school in Appleton, WI. The first of her family to attend college, she went to Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology in 1962. After graduating, she worked at Lutheran Hospital from 1962-1968. She spent the next 10 years at home raising her family. In 1978, she re-entered the workforce and took a job in the blood bank at Aurora St. Luke’s in Milwaukee. She retired from this job after 25 years in 2003.

 While attending Marquette University, she met her sweetheart, Robert J. Frey, at a dance for Catholic Youth. Bob was the shy one, so it was up to her to ask him to dance. They married in June 1966 and have been married ever since. The early years of marriage they lived in Milwaukee, then moved to Greendale in 1978, where they became members of St. Alphonsus Parish. In 2018, they became residents of Tudor Oaks.

Jean and Bob loved to travel. They spent most of their retirement traveling to several places around the world by cruise and trips by train. However, her favorite trip was the vacation when they took their whole family to Disney World in 2006. Jean also loved to read, and to play cards (Bridge). She had a group of “girls” that she had played cards with on a regular basis since 1962. Jean also spent time volunteering with her church at Tudor Oaks and as their wing rep. She also volunteered at Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin doing blood type screening for special events.

Jean is survived by her husband, Robert J. Frey, of 58 years; Sister Jan Fary (Hartjes); 3 children, Michael Frey (Eileen), Kathleen Schmidt (Steve), Steven Frey (Amy); and 6 grandchildren; Mark Bale (Hannah), Matthew Schmidt, Riley Frey, Jason Schmidt, Mikael Frey, Cassandra Frey.

Visitation at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (6060 W Loomis Rd., Greendale) on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, from 9:30AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Milwaukee.
