James W. Carrington, known fondly as Jim to his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on November 13, 2023, in Milwaukee, WI. Born on May 19, 1935, in Springfield, MA, Jim was an analytical, interesting, and intelligent man who lived a full and vibrant life.
Jim was happily married to Joyce (Matson) Carrington for 40 years, until Joyce passed away unexpectedly in 2003.
Jim was also a proud Navy veteran, serving his nation with honor and distinction. Following his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a draftsman at Allis Chalmers, where he worked until his retirement. Jim's analytical mind and intelligent approach to problem-solving were assets in his professional life, and he was a respected and valued member of the Allis Chalmers team.
A man of many interests, Jim was an avid golfer, relishing the challenge and camaraderie of the game. He was also a passionate traveler, always eager to explore new places and cultures. A loyal fan, he followed the Brewers, Packers, and Bucks with unwavering devotion. His love for these teams was a testament to his steadfast loyalty, a trait that was evident in all aspects of his life.
Jim also loved going to the movies weekly with his honorary nephew, David Coolidge. David and Diane Coolidge opened their home to Jim during holidays and special events, which Jim appreciated greatly.
Jim is survived by his brother, Roger Carrington; his nephews, Steven Carrington, David (Sandy) Porod, and Robert (Jenny) DeChambeau; his nieces, Lynn Carrington, Janet (James) Hoegemeier, Suzanne (Darwin) Perry, Kathy (James) Vertz, Michelle (Doug King) DeChambeau, and Daphne DeChambeau. He also leaves behind many great-nieces and nephews who will fondly remember their great-uncle Jim's interesting stories and wisdom. His companion, Darla Lannewehr, will cherish memories of their time together.
Jim was a man who lived his life with purpose and joy. His analytical mind, interesting conversation, and intelligent insight will be remembered by all who knew him. His memory will be treasured by his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
A memorial reception honoring Jim's life will be held at Max A. Sass & Sons-Greenridge Chapel (4747 S. 60th St., Greenfield, WI 53221) on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, immediately followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
