James “Jim” M. Van Vlaenderen

James Van Vlaenderen, (78) was reunited with his beloved wife of 53 years, Virginia (“Ginny” – nee Gloyer), on Friday, January 3, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents Adeline and Harold, and nephew, Ted. Loving brother to Edward (Margaret), Gary, Dennis (George Litts), and Reverend Leonard. Proud uncle to Randy (Kim), Michael (Tina), and Jacob (Em). Further survived by great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Jim served in the Army National Guard. He owned Engbring Moving Company for many years. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Eagle Spring Island, playing cribbage with family and friends, as well as playing the slots at Potawatomi, Las Vegas and Elko, Nevada. A quiet man, he missed his wife dearly. He enjoyed watching game shows and TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and will be remembered for his impersonations of famous people.

While Jim survived bladder cancer 20 years earlier, it returned with a vengeance in 2022. His brother, Len, felt privileged to journey with Jim during this chapter of the pilgrimage. Daily visits with Len and Scooby were a special treat. Jim was also grateful to his nephews, Randy and Jacob, for their frequent visits – and for Randy for introducing him into live streaming shows and movies. A special thank you to Jim’s hospice nurse, Linda, and the rest of the caring professionals at Advocate Aurora At-Home Hospice.

Memorial Gathering at Max Sass Funeral Home, Greenridge Chapel on Tuesday, January 14, from 9AM to 10 AM followed by a Memorial Service at 10 AM. Burial at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made out to The Wisconsin Humane Society.
